One runs "fiber to the curb", terminating in pole, strand, cabinet or vault digital loop carrier equipment connecting subscribers to a Central Office. I worked on such equipment at a former employer.

As I understand it, DSL is still limited to 18000 ft. from the "central office" - but determining exactly where that is isn't always obvious. If I am wrong here, I would like to know it. I also just

Has Verizon figured out how to extend the range limitation on DSL? I thought it used to be limited to X miles from a central office. I don't believe so. At least SBC hasn't figured out how to do it a
