I was on an antennas reflector recently asking about the proper placement of a low pass filter and several members asked why am I using one at all. They said with the modern radios (I have an Icom 70

Even though I know that modern rigs don't need one and that modern amplifiers don't need one and that VHF TV is dead as a door nail (or is that coffin nail?), I anachronistically use one. The inserti

John, Today's rigs are, in fact, designed with internal filters (low pass and/or band pass) so that the rigs can meet the spurious and harmonic requirements set forth by FCC and other regulatory bodi

I thought the ordinary HF low-pass filters were and still are designed for up to HF only, so they don't pass 6 meters which is VHF. I wouldn't expect that to change unless the filter specifically st

Back in the day, I believe Drake made two - a cheaper one that rolled off between 40 and 50 MHz, and one intended specifically for 6 meters, with a sharp roll-off above the band and below Channel 2.

Another thing I've noticed with the newer rigs is they give the user far more, if not total control over the audio, both coming and going. Because of this, the set up is far less tolerant of mistakes
