An update on the power line noise situation: Several months ago I described noise at my qth which was both corona noise and lower voltage pulsing (arc noise) which was coming in at about S6 to S7. I

The reason they like to fix the power line arcs, is that they usually completely burn something up and then the arcing stops. Unfortunately my powerline has been arcing for months and refuses to burn

_________________________________________________________ You probably don't have an arc in the actual powerline itself. If it's at a bad joint in a current-carrying conductor, it will indeed burn it

Maybe you got "lucky" - for the moment. Sometimes they will clear themselves but it usually doesn't last unless a hot tap welded itself shut. Problems are almost always hardware related and with 7-15

Amen. The loudest "power-line" noise I have found originated in a lightning arrestor on a pole in the corner of my yard. Seems that it was bolted to the pole with two lag screws. A woodpecker had und

The noise is gradually returning. Now it is in the form of a 3-4 second buildup to peak (S7), then cutoff. This repeats every 23 seconds and began with slightly cooler wx. A city electrical dept. guy

Thanks Bill & everyone for your comments re my line noise problem. It's gone for now so I'm enjoying the quiet it while it lasts. Once you operate without any noise, it becomes impossible to go back
