Could use some advice on a whole-house AC filter to reduce RFI in the SW spectrum.   Ive tracked down two RFI sources this summer.  One was an arcing junction box connection in my neighbors home (we

It's important to understand that the mechanism at work here is RADIATION. The wiring in HIS house is a TRANSMITTING ANTENNA, and that is the primary mechanism by which you are hearing the trash, whi

Thanks for the reply.  First, it is notched and avoids the amateur bands.  That was one thing that made it so difficult to track down.  I had to buy a portable HF loop setup and a decent portable rec

Unlikely to do much good -- it's the wiring INSIDE that home that is the transmitting antenna, so the noise must be prevented from reaching that wiring. And most simple filters that accomplished that

I think the wiring is an unintentional radiator.  It is definitely part of the problem.  I can follow the signal along every drop lead from the transformer, and at every home on the transformer, and

The back of the unit states not to plug it into a power strip, I presume as they foresaw that reducing its signal strength.  So I think a filter would be helpful, butI'm not sure I would ever be invi

Looks like it was Mr. Johnson who had the idea of offering a wifi setup.  Good idea.  (off topic: related to Kelly Johnson of P-38 design fame?) ________________________________ From: Kelly Johnson <

That suggests that both your own home and theirs might not be well grounded at the service entrance. The AC mains coming into most homes is a twisted triplet (hot, neutral, hot), so from an RF point

Didn't the ARRL do some work with the manufacturer of a similar device a few years ago. As I recall, the approach was to notch the amateur bands so that the thing didn't attempt to use them for trans
