Thanks to everyone that has replyed to my first posting with help, I am not currently using a balun on the quad, so i will make one today and see if this makes any difference. The noise seems to be a

Paul, I ALWAYS use a balun with any balanced directional antenna, because even small amounts of common mode can cause loss of directivity by filling in nulls. It just is a very good habit to get into

In all the stuff I've read about current chokes, feedline radiation due to asymmetry, etc. I don't think I've ever seen this possibility pointed out (or thought of it). If coax can pick up RF and rer

Jim and List Members, A sidenote to Jim's comment: at least one vendor makes a SHIELDED rotator cable. Yes, the usual 8 conductors, with 2 of them over-sized, all enclosed with a shield braid and UV-

There is a reason you don't hear of that problem much, although I agree it is possible. The coax connects DIRECTLY to the antenna element. The Rotor and tower are only close by, and obviously are co

The problem with a shield is it simply re-radiates whatever common mode currents are in the system. Add another shield on top, and it does the same. They are especially useless if one end is left fl

Thanks again to everyone for the great response to my plea for help, Today i made a very simple choke balun, used the biggest ferrite ring i had, and could just about squeze 3 turns of coax through.

Hi Ian, I agree a gamma match isn't good. I've actually had feedlines arc to the tower legs when using a Gamma match on a Wilson 20m Yagi. But in that case, the problem is the boom and the entire tow
