I am looking into buying a external DSP device for contesting as my Yaesu FT-840 is crappy on SSB/RTTY as I can hear stations as far as 2.5KC away from me. Was loking at the MFJ-784B I think it is as

Jacob, An external audio DSP unit will help fight some interference, but it is not the right answer to your problem. I have the Timewave DSP unit, but it is a disappointment for serious RTTY contesti

I came to the same conclusion 2 years ago. I had (well, still have) an Icom IC-725 that I used for a half-dozen or more contests back in '04 when I got back on the air seriously. I did OK with *no* f

Bob is correct on this one. An external DSP audio filter is not going to help you. I use the JPS NIR-12 (no longer available) on both radios and the only thing it does is make the audio sound nice to

Well, there you have it... more sage advice! I'm not sure there's anymore secrets left to share! I agree with Don regarding the Icom IC-756 Pro III... I have one in the box waiting for my new ham sha

While these external devices certainly work, they can only have a limited amount of effectiveness. Any signal in the passband will pump the AGC of the rig before it gets to the audio stages of the DS

For that price range, you can buy a NEW K2/100 with the external KAT100 tuner. Of course, you'd have to build it, but that would be half the fun. The downside of the K2/100 is you can only run about

The best radio for RTTY contesting is an IC-756 Pro series, which the Pro2 can be had for the $1500-$2000 range. The TPF filter mode is the best there is for RTTY rx. The band scope is invaluable onc
