- You are probably hearing a 2Tone transmission, which starts with a long Space tone instead of the traditional short Mark tone. The reason David gave is that it allows selective fading to be measured

- Yes 2Tone and Fldigi use the same start of RTTY transmission. I originated the idea and discussed it with the Fldigi team, who implemented as well. Both 2Tone and Fldigi decoders (and W7AY Mac cocoaM
