I know many of you have moved on to CQWW CW, but I'm still digesting what happened during SS Phone. Here's some of my thoughts. Good: * Having a beam makes all the difference. I could get through to

Bill, Some thoughts. There are a lot of strata in the RF soup. The power levels, QRP, LP, and HP set the basic level. Antennae, Wires, Small Beams, Multiple Beams, are another set of factors. Operati

I don't know how high your A3 is, but I've heard those add-on kits are pretty lossy...a better bet may be to put the 40m dipole at 35' horizontal...I think that would be a good SS antenna. 80m with l

A3S is at 49.5' (15m). Problem with going to 35' feet horizontal is coming up with a support to run it to! I got no trees other than the ones backing up to my yard, and those trees house my 105' doub

Bzzzttt. Requires a good ground. Try the 1/2 sloper. The tower will act as the "good ground" and be more efficient and less messy. I used this antenna at my QTH in Lilburn and it worked VERY well. I

I assumed that supports were the problem...so, if the 35' high 80m antenna doesn't do the job and you're going with another 80m antenna, use the supports for a 40m antenna instead. As W4AN mentioned,

Lee is right. I have the 40M add-on, on an A3 and never use it because the 1/2 WL dipole outperforms it by far. FYI. Jay, K4OGG -- SECC on the Web: http://secc.contesting.com/ Submissions: secc@conte

Lee, Bill, If I were to put up a wire for 40M only, it would probably be a folded dipole. No loss, possible tweak of gain, but better bandwidth. I have one in a bucket for field days before the A3/40

I think I have mentioned that I built a 40 meter rotatable dipole recently. It performed excellently in the SS and CQWW. The primary incredients are 2 coils from a 402-cd, which are available as repl

John has a good point. I used an 80M dipole for Field Day up in Wisconsin -- max height about 30 ft., with the ends about 10 ft. up. It generated plenty of action with QRP. Bill, if you are using a t
