You're using the wrong cable. The interlink cable is a NULL modem cable and the FT-1000MP needs a straight through cable to go from it to the computer. Ignore the gender of the connectors.. goodness

Jim, The cable you need is Radio Shack Cat. No. 26-152B, shielded RS-232C Cable. Its female DB9 to female DB-9. Its straight thru without the null rollover. I have used 2 of them with FT1000MPs. 73 J

Thanks everyone. It was the cable. I ended up with a db9 to db25 with 2 gender benders cascaded to get what I needed. My new problem is that the radio is now so far away from the wall behind my desk

My new problem is that Simple fix, Jim: Pull the desk a few more inches out from the wall. Push the FT1k back to where the rear feet are at or near the back desktop edge. The radio is all important.
