I have a 218 filter that I took out of my Omni D years ago and replaced it with a new 218. I don't remember if it is off frequency or what is the problem with it. I found it in the junk drawer in the

Good morning John, I'm a bit too dumb to answer the question but I also would be 'interested' in knowing how to test it myself. I have the Orion-1 and maybe could try it out doing the same test as yo

Jim, I don't know when I replaced the filter in the Omni D. My grandson KD8AUL has the rig now along with the manuals. The invoice would still be in the manual. That is where I file those types of it

The easiest way to check a filter (if having the expensive lab equipment is easy) is to sweep it with a spectrum analyzer / tracking generator. If you don't have access to one of those ( not the kind

Another way, if you have a PC with a soundcard, is to use a spectrum analyzer program like Spectrogram to characterize the filter using band noise as input. This is the technique used by K2 builders

Another technique that works is to use spectrum analyzer software on a PC with sound card and let it display the noise spectrum of the received audio with the noise of a dead band at the receiver ant

Bob, Thanks for the idea. I am going to put the 218 in my Orion and use either CWGet or a PSK31 program and watch the waterfall screen for the noise pattern. This should give me a good idea what the

John, I'm probably way off base on this but wouldn't CwGet waterfall simply show the DSP bandwidth? Nothing to do with the roofing filter that I can see.... of course, I may be wrong... what do you t
