Well gang, Its great being able to move again and once more Im in the shack. I did some interesting testing with my doublet. heres a recap 132 feet on each side fed with 180 ish feet of 600 ohm open

I added about 10 feet of wire inside the shack and strung it across the ceiling. Is that coax or window line? What if you add a substantial length of coax...? What if you, instead, add a substantial

Its wire, with spacers to make it 600 ohm impedance. Like window line, minus the windows. I cant really add much more length to the feed side of the antenna, Ive got it spread out across the ceiling

OK - I thought you might be able to use a longer coax patch cable between balun and rig? Happy trails, OM. Glad to hear you are up and about and able to putz around! -- JHR -- I cant really add much

Mike, just for a quick test, insert a 4:1 balun, between the openwire and the 1:1 current balun. Just insert an SO-239 between the 50 Ohm side of the new balun and the antenna side of the 1:1 balun.

Having gone back and reviewed some 30 or so e-mail exchanges on this topic, it is my conclusion that the length of the wire should be OK and the type and length of the feed-line should be OK. Further

I agree with Bob. But, having no technical background I tend to do things the 'ham' way. I'd try a different 1:1 balun. I know they should be the same, but experience the problems you describe with a

Bob, John, and the gang, I agree. Why the palstar cant match at 1.825 and the Ten Tec 253 can, yet the palstar can easily match the doublet at 10.120 and the 253 cant still remains a mystery to me. I

The Ten Tec 229 and 238 series tuners have a built-in 4:1 transformer to match open wire line. A "strap" is needed between two terminals on the rear panel, and the antenna will show up on switch posi

Mike, The manual Ten Tec tuners have a 4:1 voltage balun in them (misnomer; it's not really a balun because it doesn't reject common mode current). I don't know if the 253 has this or not, but if it

Yes Steve, you are correct. You have two windings (transmission lines) with the 4:1 Guanella. Usually the bifilar windings are about 100 Ohms. Their inputs are in parallel and their outputs are in se
