This is TOTALLY WRONG! I know of nearly a dozen VERY different things that are described by the word "balun." An RF choke is an inductor, and it some frequency it will resonate with its own stray C.
Yes Jim, But if we draw the Venn diagram of RF Chokes and BALUN's I speculate there is something in the overlap, is there not? Jon _______________________________________________ TenTec mailing list

OK, then we were on different pages. SRI (thought it was strange that you would ask that - hi) I was talking about fixing a problem where the antenna tuner won't find a match on one band. I suggested
I've done my best, both in the RFI tutorial and in the Power Point on coaxial chokes that are on my website. Throughout, you insist on using the word "balun" with some qualifying adjective. Why use t
Jim, YES! I sure wish the names you listed were what people use. That would eliminate a lot of the confusion. The problem is, text books and all of the retailers selling these things continue to use
Gee, I'm sorry to hear that. I tried very hard to write it for someone who understood the basics of electronics, electrical circuits, transmission lines, and antennas. Is that assumption unreasonable
Ah, Jim, I wish that were so. Shocking, but true. After all yesterday I ran into a ham and was showing him my HF mobile set-up. He remarked, "why do you need an antenna when you can operate full dupl

Jim, I'm surprised you feel so strongly! Throughout your RFI tutorial I see many references to the term "current balun". In a couple of places you put the term in parenthesis, or explain that it is r
Hmmm... Is it possible there are multiple meanings of the word "balun" - some of which are technically correct, while other, more casual uses are used in the vernacular, but not technically correct?
Thanks, Rick. That's exactly the sort of stuff I need to hear to improve it. 73, Jim _______________________________________________ TenTec mailing list TenTec@contesting.com http://lists.contesting.
Jim, on my web site in the section on CMC, I don't even entitle it "CMC". That doesn't interest Joe Ham. In fact most Joe Hams don't even know what common mode current is. So the first thing we must
