I second the kudos! The same sentiments were probably voiced decades ago. My Omni V with the upgrade chip is as good as my FT857D (in some cases better). The best signal processor is the one between

Hi all, Since we're into subjective impressions, I'll put on my flak jacket and share mine. Looking at Rob Sherwood's table, the top six receivers (FT-5000, K3, Perseus, Flex 5000, Orion I and II) lo

Ray, It is also interesting that the "old" Corsair rates in the top 25 radios. It is ahead of such radios as the Icom IC756ProII, PROIII, Collins S-Line, and a whole lot more. It probably sounds a wh

I think George nailed it. He has just about everything on that list and says he can't tell a difference between them. So I guess if any of us has anything near the top of the list, we can all be happ

In addition to no phase noise, it is difficult to overload a PTO with many strong signals as with a pile-up. I'm certain that the overload point for a PTO is zero DBm or greater whereas many PLL circ

Very interesting anecdote Gary. I would suggest that part of the superiority of the Corsair over the Omni 6 was the pure analog audio chain in the Corsair versus the first generation dsp digital audi

Jerry, I've never had a Corsair, but know what you mean. In the 1980s my main HF radio was the FT-102/FV-102DM. The receiver was better with the digital VFO switched out. 73 Ray. In a message dated 9

Ray,Very true, but keep in mind that the feature sets are different between the first two groups. All the radios in the first group either have, or offer, a second receiver. This was a major differen

I wonder if a lot of our preferences for radios go beyond the technical specs to other areas of performance? I have an Omni V with the updated chip and a full complement of filters. I also have a Cor

Steve:  I concur with your views.  Been in ham radio since 1969 and have had several rigs.  The one I miss the most is the Heath SB-102.  I now have a Jupiter and an Omni VI that has the VI+ upgrade.

Good pointt, Joel. Even within the top group, there are big differences in sub receivers, e.g. the Orion's is general coverage while the K3 is ham band only with better performance. Ye pays yer money
