- While running a Tentec Centurion at about 275 watts carrier output, the DC input is some 2800 volts at about 300 ma plate current or about 840 watts or so input. I notice that the 3-500Z's show very

- Have you tuned for maximum out or for plate and grid currents? The plate and grid meters of a grounded grid amplifier can mislead you a great deal when tuning. Its far more effective to tune for maxi

- Jerry: Thank for the reply. Actually I tune the amp initially with about 5 watts of drive from the exciter then increase the drive to the point grid current approaches the red line of 130 ma (2 tubes

- I don't believe you have sufficient grid current. The grids of 3-500z tubes when the tube is cathode driven normally draw 108 mAdc each. That is 216 mAdc for a pair. Where did the 130 ma red line com

- If there's more plate color there's more plate dissipation. Less output, or more plate input. As if the load Z to the tubes isn't the same on 40 as it is on the lower bands. The tubes do have some in

- Correction on the gird current. I mis-stated the numbers. It is 260 ma under CW conditions and 130 ma under SSB conditions. Data is taken from the Tentec operation manual for the Centurion. 73 Bob, K

- Hi Bob, I'm curious about what mode you are operating where you drive the amp to get 275 watts out. I'm guessing it must be either cw or AM with a carrier? anyway, as Jerry said, just tune it for max

- Rob: I use the Tentec Paragon in the TUNE mode for my initial tune-up source because it has variable output from about 1 watt to slightly over 100 watts. As to the 15 watt level, well that comes from
