John, If you only need to raise power slightly, there is a FAR BETTER way to go than either proposal you listed. IMPROVE your antennas! You can double your power with a phased array of two verticals

Hi John, Let me share my experience with you, even though it does not exactly match the configuration you describe. I used an OMNI VI+ (similar in keying to the ORION) together with an Ameritron AL80

John, You also have a third option. Get a good used Ten-Tec Centaur. 600 Watts out FULL QUIET QSK AND COMPLETELY COMPATABLE WITH THE ORION. About the same cost as a new Ameritron 811H and better buil

Just run the Orion "Amp Key" line to your Ameritron's relay or key line, whatever it is called. The Orion is designed to bring up the amp key line early enough to allow the amplifier's antenna relay

John, I just purchased a Centurion 422B new from TT. I can't say enough good things about this amp. I am using two GAP verticals, a Titan and the Voyager. Both exhibit fairly good SWR and the amp loa

John, I have been a ham since 1970. I did not own an HF amplifier until around 1990. I am not saying that you should wait 20 years to get an amplifier. Still there is a lot to be learned about HF CW

You've hit the nail right on the head with this one! I agree that you should go with the best antennas you can get before even thinking about adding power. Nicely put, Stuart! -- Original Message --

Why not pick up a used Centaur? Basically the same amp as an 811H but with Ten-Tec quality, built-in QSK, and set up to work with all Ten-Tec rigs. You can pick up a pristine used one for $600 or un
