That's a "chicken and egg problem". All current software uses RS-232 ports because all current radios use RS-232 ports. What happens when you can no longer get a computer with RS-232 ports? AFIK Ten-

The FT-1000mp has a built in RS-232 interface. The level converter is internal, so there is no need for the external IF-232 box. I believe this fact holds for the rest of the "mp"-series rigs. True,
