Pete, Switch to VFO A with the A/B button. Tune in on the DX station. Briefly push the LOCK button, the red LED left next to the LOCK button now lights up. You now have locked VFO A on the frequency

This is an early Omni VI. I cannot lock A or B VFO individual. If I lock one, they both are locked. I have tried various combinations of locking A first, then going to spit, going to split first, and
