I have noticed in the last month or so that the display on my Omni V.9 freezes up after about 20 minutes operation. Recently it has got worse and the display is frozen when I switch on the rig. Rotat

I no longer own an Omni V.9 BUT I remember that it would sometimes go weird (e.g. when I replaced the battery). I assume you've done the normal rig rest as described in the Omni V manual. When a norm

Could this be one of those "3rd party" software glitches? A full reset may correct the issue or maybe return to the original Tentec issued software which did not encounter the concern. 73 Bob, K4TAX

Bob McGraw - K4TAX writes... Could be, but not likely. The N4PY software has been in use on Omni V's for quite a number of years, and I've found nothing in the various archives linking lockup issues

Hi Bob, I am no expert, however I would suspect the optical encoder on the main tuning dial, or else perhaps one of the interconnecting cables for it has worked loose. 73, Ken W7TS I have noticed in

The resets for the V.9 chip were required when people did not follow the correct procedure to initialize the band register values. There was a setup step that was missed by several people at installa

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I've always thought of the V.9 and V.92 as firmware, not software. And it sounds like the display problem is hardware. 73, Mike K9MI _____________________________________

Mike K9MI writes... Isn't firmware just software that's stored in a write-once, read-only memory instead of in rewriteable random-access memory? I haven't looked at the chip specs for the Omni V, but

The fact that it has been a gradual increase in the problem maybe points to a component failure rather than a working loose of one of the interconnects. I'll take the lid off and unplug/plug all the

Yes, I thought that was the case. I tried a power + CLR/CLK reset, but it didn't do the trick. And yes, I did it after installing your V.9 chip! 73 Bob MM0RKT ________________________________________

by the way. I'm not sure about the software. The V -> V.9 mod involves replacement of the main EPROM ie a change of the firmware. There are enough V.9 modded rigs out there to have shown up this prob

Is there any Ten Tec service department in Europe? If not call Ten Tec here in the states. They should give you a place to start looking anyway. _______________________________________________ TenTec

Yes, there's one here in the UK, called AOR UK, would you believe? The service guys in TenTec USA reckon it's most likely a faulty optical encoder, so I'll order one up and do it myself. 73 Bob MM0RK

Why not order 2 encoders and build yourself a 301 remote pod? You put it in a small project box and add a multi conductor cable and wire it into the dB-25 on the back of the Omni V.9. The 301 is a VE
