I have been having a problem on my Corsair II with gurgle on SSB voice peaks. I believe the gauge of wire from my Astron 35M to the Corsair II to be #14. That is the way I got it from previous owner.

Res ipso loquitor. The evidence speaks for itself. Go build a 12 gauge cable for the Corsair and keep it as short as possible. 73, Jerry, K0CQ _______________________________________________ TenTec m
The MINIMUM power supply wire gauge for any 100 watt radio would be no. 12, as it is rated at the 20 amps your 100 watt radio likely pulls. Some of the latest radios pull 25 amps, and you would need

That is what I am thinking. I am making one up for #10. I am having a very hard time getting the pins out of the Molex plug without a Molex tool. This may have to wait a few days until I locate one.
Dan FYI I use some brass tubing to do that. Takes a bit of fiddling but I had some old brass ball pen tubes that fit. Mike Iowa BTW #10 can handle 25 A do you need that much? -- Original Message -- F
You ought to see the size of wire that Ten Tec uses at the factory.. I do not think it is bigger than no. 14. Could be wrong but think I am correct. Stuart Rohre <rohre@arlut.utexas.edu> wrote: The M
No. 10 wire is too big. MICHAEL SOUHRADA <wb9iog@msn.com> wrote: Dan FYI I use some brass tubing to do that. Takes a bit of fiddling but I had some old brass ball pen tubes that fit. Mike Iowa BTW #1
Why can't you test for your problem by reducing your power. If you still have the problem with reduce power, it ain't the wire. 73 Art W2NRA "Keep to the code!" w2nra.com That is what I am thinking.

They are also available from Mouser, once you figure out which ones to order. 73, Jerry, K0CQ _______________________________________________ TenTec mailing list TenTec@contesting.com http://lists.co
If it's the 4 pin plug it's this one: http://www.tentecwiki.org/doku.php?id=80572 . There is a link to the Mouser part numbers on that page. 73, Alan N5NA http://www.tentecwiki.org __________________
OF course a manufacturer is going to use the least cost option to keep a good profit margin. For short runs, you can skimp on gauge. But, the ampacity rating of your wire should be generous in case y

However, at 12 volts, voltage drop from wire resistance is ten times as important as at 120 volts so you can't run 20 amps through 12 gauge copper the length of the house. I found 12 gauge circuits 8
I am sure that at the Ten Tec factory when I have been there .... They are running a SS power supply and use not more than Number 14 wire to their radios. Art Searle W2NRA <w2nra@optonline.net> wrote
Not following this thread REAL close, but maybe the connector pins on the 14Ga cable have spread some, allowing voltage drop there. A fellow listed that problem recently, and I can attest it is NOT a
Jerry makes a good point. The AC ampacity of wires is not solely sufficient for DC, and is imperfect at longer lengths for AC drops. Consider the voltage is rising and falling at the frequency of the
The big problem is IR loss in the wire from the power supply to the radio, not necessarily the "ampacity" of the wire. The longer and thinner the wire, the more the voltage drop as the current increa
It is the #14 wire in this case. But, I feel like you do. That Molex plug is about as bad as it gets. TT would have been better off providing wire screw twist caps. I think even they would make a bet
