Here's a quick report on what I found. By taking pin 2 to the connector case (pin 1 is mic, pin 2 is shield), the audio gets becomes distorted - buzzy.. Turning on the speech processor, even on just

Duane, My guess is that when you connect the shield to chasis, you are also connecting the internal circuit board to chassis ground also. Maybe that causes some kind of ground loop? The circuit in th

Yep, the "ungrounded shield" that they are talking about is a classic pin 1 problem! Good to see that great minds are starting to run in the same direction! Jim Brown K9YC ___________________________

Duane: I ran into the same problem with my ProSet that you did, and learned by trial and (much) error that figure 2-5 in the Orion manual is to be taken literally. The Mic ground and the shield must

Yep - the problem with the diagram in the Orion manual is that it assumes there will be a mic + and - connection separate from the shield. In the Heil setup, and in most similar ham wiring I've seen,

I suspect that the problems here may be related to the difference between balanced and unbalanced audio wiring. Virtually all ham gear uses UN-balanced audio -- as I understand it (I'm not flush enou
