I was trying to copy a weak CW signal yesterday, without headphones on, and noticed just how intrusive the sound of my Hercules II cooling fan is. I don't think it's any worse than when it was new -

Greetings Steve, I have operated a Herc II for the past 16 years. I seldom notice that there is even a fan in the unit. Only in heavy "contest" operation do I hear it and I don't recall ever hearing

Hi, Steve-- Not the same amp but its namesake: I had the original Hercules 444. Its fan increased speed with temperature. At full tilt it sounded rather like a 747 in full engine reverse. Putting it

Mike, Thanks for the input - I think I remember reading somewhere that the original Hercules was noisy. However, Bob Good advises that his Hercules II is quiet, and I just found a 1990 CQ report wher

Steve, Definitely a noisey fan! There is a resonance heard with something else. Mounting the amplifier on a rubber pad may help. Also, mounting a rubber gasket under the fan mounts may isolate it fro

Today I did a few checks on the present fan. 1) I unbolted it from the under-tray and held it in place by hand. There was no reduction in noise, so I don't think resilient mountings will help. 2) I r
