Well, my Omni 6 is in for repair, and Ten Tec has diagnosed a logic board failure. Due to the unavailable chips, this means a dead radio. I know this isn't the first and wont be the last of these gre

Tentec should be the one most capable of making a new board design. They SHOULD have the code for the old control program, if its the processor that is most obsolete. If they don't have the code, its

Did they narrow it down to an unobtainable chip, or just ...bad logic board? Some obsolete chips are hard to find, but still ...eventually...can be found! ....Dave -- Original Message -- From: "Carte

Previous reports of Omni 6 logic board failures have stated a IC is no longer available. I have wondered if TenTec could retrofit using a PIC, programmed using the original firmware code parameters.

If one of the thousand and one PIC chips wouldn't do, there are perhaps 100 makers of microcontroller chips each with hundreds of products with a wide variation on capabilities. I suspect Tentec can'

Yes, but those "boat anchors" are repairable. I think we need a new term for more recent radios that can't be repaired and don't weigh 80lbs. 73, Barry N1EU __________________________________________
