I may be in the market soon for an older (1990s) contest quality rig, and wonder how the Kenwood TS850 compares to the Ten Tec Omni V overall. Anyone have a chance to compare these 2? The QST review

Don't let the smaller size make your decision. I went from a very good Kenwood Ts 9302/AT with all the filters and direct FSK to a corsair II with external VFO and I ani't lookin back. The SSB is gre

John: Having owned both rigs for an extended time period, just gotta say, this is a tough call. In the end, though I believe the OMNI V wins. I believe the V is one of the finest rigs ever built, esp

John, I've seen IC-765's for ~$850 or so. Pretty reasonable for a fairly nice radio. I owned one before my Omni VI+. I like the VI+ much better, of course. I'd guess the 850 would be a close competit

I agree. I have a 765 and an Omni VI here. When conditions are rough the Omni wins hands down. With lots of atmospheric noise the IF filters in the Omni are not nearly as objectionable as the filters

The 850 is a superb SSB radio. Ab-fab audio quality on TX & RX. It's QSK is not as good as a ten tec. Personally, having owned an OMNI V, I'd say I like the 850 better. But using two OMNI VI+s in the

Next to my Orion, the Omni 6 is the best radio for CW and FSK I've ever used. I don't have a mike for it so SSB I don't know. Mine is loaded up with filters. Also power supply and speaker. I work mos

The TS850 was the first Yaecomwood radio that put a lot of attention to receiver dynamic range. It doesn't hold a candle to a Corsair II or later Tentec but compared to the import radio world it was

The break in is superior on Ten Tec radios, and the receiver is likely better. But, for the right price the 850 is a fine radio. Our club station has one, along with 430, 440, and 450 as well as a 14

I have use the omni v, ic-765 and ts-850. The omni v and ic-765 are very good radios. Quiet and good selectivity. The ts-850 is noisey with white noise and not as good on selectivity.Either the omni
