Hi Vern, I have been wondering the same thing. I know of two differences 1) $300.00 and 2) the word "PLUS" on the front panel. If you find out any other differences, please let me know too. Ken N6KB

Vern, they are essentially the same, however an Omni Opt 3 could be several years older than the VI+. The earlier one may not have the crystal oven that stays on whenever +13.6V is applied, as all VI
