1. [TenTec] Orion 565 Oscillator frequency problem (score: 1)

Hello group, I've lately noticed my Orion 565 is way off frequency and drifting during warm-up. These measurements were taken at 80 degree room temperature beating against WWV on both 15 and 20 MHz.

Hi Rob, Rig is within spec . Spec is +/- 3 PPM which is 45 Hz @ 15Mhz and 60 Hz @ 20 Mhz. You have a maximum drift of 32 Hz @ 15 Mhz and 42 Hz at 20 Mhz. However the frequency starts off at 32 Hz low

Rob: The frequency drift problem on Orions and Orion II's is well documented. Since every TCXO is slightly different, replacing the unit might improve overall stability, but it might also make it wor

Such frequency drift is a constant problem at VHF through microwave ham activities running SSB and CW. 3 ppm at 10 GHz is 30 KHz. The first help is isolation of the oscillator by hiding it in a block

I can attest to Ron's fix. I did it to my O-2, and stability was dramatically improved. I am now stable to within 3 Hz. 73, Bernie K5XS Rob: The frequency drift problem on Orions and Orion II's is we

There is an internal regulator on the board that puts out +5 VDC that the oscillator uses. Variations on the main external supply shouldn't effect the stability of the oscillator module. Ron N6IE www

I also wish the oscillator could be replaced with an aftermarket unit, maybe one like this: http://www.greenrayindustries.com/library/yh1420.pdf I don't know what those cost, but I would pay $200 to

A fan added to most oscillators to keep a cool and even temperature can do wonders. Stuart K5KVH _______________________________________________ TenTec mailing list TenTec@contesting.com http://lists
