The way I'm lashed up here in the shack has a power meter continuously on line. I looked up to see how much I was putting out with the Orion II and discovered that I was showing about 35-50 watts ave

Perhaps there is a difference of "quality" vs. "quantity". I don't see how a 100 watt rated PEP radio would show 75 watts avg output on a analog meter without excessive compression or clipping taking

Further to this end, my experience and practice tells me that an analog meter under normal speech will show a power level of some 6 dB less than the true peak level. Some from Europe may argue that t

Barry, It might help if you give more details on the meter, where it is placed and whether you have any SWR which might be reading differently on the Orion than on the TS-50. If you have a dummy load

If you can whistle up 100w on peaks, you are getting everything you should as output. _______________________________________________ TenTec mailing list TenTec@contesting.com http://lists.contesting

I agree with the previous comments that good speech (hi fi!) will have a very low average power, but should show occasional peaks to 100W. That is part of why you get the good audio reports with the

If that's your "average" power out of the TS-50, that thing must sound REALLY bad. You should see maybe 25 watts, more or less depending on your voice, with no processing. And if you're running enou

Barry, The first question here is, what kind of watt meter are you using and does it show "average power" or "peak power"? If you have a meter reading average power, then everything is probably OK as

Rick, Let me start with I have a MFJ power meter. It measures either peak or average depending on a switch setting. What you describe is in line with what I expect. I should be able to see a peak on

Martin, The TS-50 does have some speech processing. I never discovered how much. I run the SP at 4 on the Orion II. I want punch not hifi for DX. In fact, that's what started this. I was unable to br

As you probably know, Orion's ALC LED has to blinks while you speak. If not, drive is insufficient. 73, Sinisa YT1NT, VE3EA _______________________________________________ TenTec mailing list TenTec@

This is an important point. Also, as an experiment you could try increasing SP to 8 or 9 and note the power output indication. 73, Barry N1EU _______________________________________________ TenTec ma

Careful when running high SP - it makes your mic extremely sensitive. If you use the monitor, it's very easy to get audio feedback & oscillation. On the other hand, your average power shoots up to ne
