I used my Orions SO2R in the WW RTTY this weekend, so I decided to share how they performed. Firstly, both radios were on for the full 48 hours of the event and for a couple of hours before. I operat

Bob, When the mode changes on the Orion, the filter command must be resent from the serial port. This was explained to me by Gary Barbour. If this is not done, a default filter for that mode is selec

Re-reading what I wrote makes me think you might feel I was being rather disingenuous. I wasn't. I realise there are a lot of folks who would love to have a set-up like mine. When I said modest, I me

My method for determining the 60 db drop was to use the Orion S meter. I used an old crystal calibrator as a constant source signal. And yes, I did have the roofing filter set to 20 khz. Carl Moresch

Thanks Carl! Although Orion's S-meter is more linear than most, it could be that you were in a non-linear area and the actual attenuation was not quite 60 dB. Here are measurements made by W8ZR in Ja

Carl That's interesting, though pretty wierd. I must say, what I know about remote control of radios could be written in large type on a very small piece of paper. Though why, if you command a radio

Bob, I think the default filter width gets set the first time you set a BW for a particular mode after a reset of the rig. At least that is my observation. As far as software is concerned...I am a Wr
