I own an Omni D that works well and enjoy using, except the PTO is beginning to drag. Have the kit to rebuild it, have never done a rebuild before, but am reasonably mechanically capable. TT tells me

Rebuild is a relatively easy job. Worst part is getting the PTO in and out of the rig. By all means do it yourself. I've done over a dozen and they keep getting easier. No need to realign. Just remov

I agree that the rebuild of the PTO is very straightforward. You can find good instructions at W5ESE's website. I also agree that figuring out how to remove it from the rig is the hardest part. I doc

It took me three hours from beginning to extract the PTO to being ready to use the radio again. When you take the drive apart work over a cafeteria tray to catch the small balls that would otherwise

I think I used rubbing alcohol and a toothbrush to rebuild the PTO on my Triton 540. Probably similar PTO. The process is straight forward if you're mechanically inclined, and there should be help an

Sending to TenTec would be a terrible waste, unless you cannot deal with teeny little tiny parts. Eyesight and coordination are necessary, brain power is not. It is very easy to figure out with the

Some PTOs need only fresh grease, the PTO in my Corsair II needed new metal parts, the races for the vernier were worn badly and it still would have slipped with only fresh sticky grease. 73, Jerry,

Curt: Rebuilding the PTO is easy. Just follow the instructions and try not to drop any small parts or ball bearings. Do the disassembly and assembly work in a small pan. For cleaning, I wiped off the

Yes, you really don't need to replace parts unless they are badly worn. Usually a cleaning and re-lube will do the trick. Be careful with WD-40, though. Someone on this reflector said that it can cor

I used Dawn dish detergent (applied with an old toothbrush) to cut through the old grease. In only one PTO did I think I saw signs of wear -- the bearing race had a groove "worn" in it. Looking back

The frame of the PTO is cut from a bit of aluminum channel and the inside is not exactly perpendicular to the shaft, but that's how the out race is supported at an angle to the shaft, not quite squar
