- One other thought. Any of the old type receivers that has a BFO and does not have a product detector can copy SSB quite well. All you do is run the AF gain full and use the RF gain control as a volum

- Yes.... The TMC mfg CV-591A and it's variants were the most popular. See one on my web page as part of my listening R-390A listening station. Interestingly R-390A's with their RTTY and SSB adaptors

- You didn't have to follow this procedure with AF & RF gain manipulation. All one needed to do was use the BFO and "sweep" or rotate it to the optimum position. You didn't have to fiddle with the AF G
