All this talk of PTO rebuilding makes me wonder about the Scout that I bought some months ago. The PTO in it turns fairly easily on one end of the range, but gets progressively tighter when tuning to

I too, have a scout PTO question my scout is really hard to tune in a cw station. the pto kinda jumps about as you tune. ssb is fine, as you don't notice it as much. someone or someplace mentioned th

The TenTec PTO is spring loaded and the spring gets compressed as you move the slug into the coil going down in frequency. Makes it stiffer at the low end than at the high end. 73, Jerry, K0CQ -- Ent

Jumpy tuning sounds like hardened lubricant on the screw. The grounding strap should help mostly with hand capacitance effects. 73, Jerry, K0CQ -- Entire content copyright Dr. Gerald N. Johnson, elec

Probably as others have stated, the effect of tight tuning in one direction is the spring action. Maybe you have a burr on the spring. If you can get some Caig deoxit product to the interface that ma

Yes, this is normal because it uses a spring riding on a shaft to maintain tension on the coil slug. At one end of the tuning range the spring is compressed. The Scout PTO mechanism looks like a mini

Has anyone tried removing one or two of the plastic spacers that are on the PTO spring shaft? I am wondering if the PTO would tune more smoothly if there was a little less spring tension. Mine seems

Probably needs a bit more preload on the shaft bearings. Another brass washer at the back thrust washer location. I rebuilt the PTO in my Corsair II and left out one and it does the same thing. Less

The Scout PTO is different from the other PTO's. The principle is the same, but the components are different and it does not have an adjustable preload, except for some plastic spacers on the spring
