In the case of solid state, there is not much choice other than no-tune since the outputs can be easily broad-band matched to 50 Ohms and they generally use fixed low-pass filters for harmonic reject

I'm not sure how many hams want a no-tune amp--tuning a tube plate to low Z doesn't really bother me that much, in fact I prefer to do it myself, not trusting some logic circuit to tune and load for

Tom: Those some of the many good reasons for no-tune/auto-tune amps. Contesters, DX'ers who hop band-to-band, even casual operators who just want to "point and shoot", making the amp a true extension

"Could never duplicate"? Interesting statement Ron, but could you clarify it a bit? The Japanese transceivers were generally complex, at least more complex than an amplifier. Were they not trying to

Probably a lot of reasons why the JA's never built as many amps as US companies. The power limitation in both Japan (I don't know what it is) and other countries could be a big reason, which relates

According to the JARL webpage it's 1KW (peak power delivered to the antenna) and then drops at 50 Mhz and up. Which is probably why the PW-1 and Quadra are nominally rated at 1KW (although they will
