I would not remove it, ware indicates active use not a shelf ornament. I have a transmitter and receiver that I bought as soon as I could afford it. The frequency dials and all controls have the same

I agree... I would not try to strip the current cover. I would clean it with something that can cut grease and oil and yet not harm the paint or other finish. Oddly enough, my usual cleaner of choice
