I've mostly considered the 200-watt feature as a Madison Avenue marketing gimmick. This appeals to folks who only live in a linear world (i.e., if one is good, two is twice as good). We could make t

The comparison of the Eagle to the 590 is very realistic. The 590 is the best value for the money on the market. The Eagle costs a little more, but it's worth it to me and many of us. Comparing it to

Stuart - Forgive me for venting on this subject, but Rob Sherwood's chart is perhaps the most misunderstood piece of information in ham radio today. It is not, and was never intended to be, a grading

There's not a lot of difference between the top 10 radios listed in Rob Sherwood's chart..... and for 90 to 95% of the operators reading the charts, the differences between ANY two radios from the to

I admit to missing the initial post in this thread, but the obvious question is, what do you want to DO with your radio, and what special challenges do you face at your QTH, or with your style of ope

I agree with Jim regarding the radio environment you and your radio equipment operate in. Still those radios with 80db or better dynamic range at 2KHz are competitive when the operator understands th

Jim, Yes, a scope can monitor a range of frequencies at the same time. The ear can't. Actually, I use the Orion II sweep display (v2.044a, set to 36 kHz) to do functions 1-3. It won't identify the st

Although Bill was writing about the original Orion, he has pretty well summed up the wish list for an Orion III (or Orion II MkII): 1. Sub RX identical to the main RX 2. First IF output with no user

The notion that there is no difference between 100 watts and 200 watts is flawed. There is a little over 3dB difference, which often makes the difference between a QSO, albeit a rough one, and no QSO
