It works, though there may be a half dB of resistive loss, depending on the tuning. Might even be a bit more. I have had no problems using insulated 12 gauge stranded house wire for an inverted V in

Most steel wires will show more r-f loss than copper wires. If the loss is tolerable, go for it! Might be a little hard to work with it if it is stiff, etc. I prefer to use the Home Depot or Lowe's #
