This can be generated at their transmitter with simply a too rapid rise and or fall of the keying envelope, or can be generated in your receiver because of audio generated AGC and the inherent delay

Art, I guess the correct answer is yes and yes. There are a lot of crappy signals on the bands. I think if you added the next 500 hz filter (6 mhz I believe), you will eliminate most of the problem s

Good point, often forgotten. Doesn't matter which radio, if it has a noise blanker, noise present will chop the strong signal and make it sound like it has splatter, even when it doesn't. 73, Jerry,
