I thinking of getting a W4RRY battery booster for my mobile/portable work. The problem: 1.The 50 watt (10 amp key down) Scout will not work properly with the engine off or with the engine in idle. Am

Just a thought (though you may already have had the same thoughts, it is worth a moment!) 1. Check your power cables for voltage drop (improve them as a matter of course) 2. Check your power connecto

Indeed, Ten Tec rigs are designed to operate at 13.8 volts which is full output on many alternator/ battery systems in cars. With the alternator Not boosting the older battery, you may fall to 12 vol

Bob, This is a common problem for which there are two solutions: 1- use the battery booster 2- put in much bigger battery cable -- like awg No 4 cable. Believe it or not, when you are drawing 20 amps

Hi Clark, I'm a member of ARES and have been intrigued by the idea of going with a deep cycle marine battery. I tested "our" Corsair with a fully charged 7 amp hr gel cell and got a report of a littl

A pretty small battery to draw 20 amps on peaks. I suspect that the voltage drop was pretty bad on peaks. I would not use a small battery like that unless I drove the Corsair QRP. Yes. I did SSB. Use

For something like the Corsair, you really need much more than a 7 Amp Hr. battery! Get a full size car or Marine battery, fully charged. The rig wants 12 volts and a bit more for most stable operati

Yes, I, too recommend a bigger battery. For safety's sake, use a sealed lead acid battery. The best are the Optima yellow top batteries. Also, I think Powerwerx and West Mountain Radio sell deep cycl

Would a 65 amp hour deep cycle battery be ok for the Corsair? I have a weak back and would prefer the smaller battery if it would suffice, although I can carry the heavier 90 amp hour battery if I'm

Please let me clarify this. The 7 hr gel cell was only a test. I wanted to make one or two contacts to see if it would be worthwhile to buy a larger battery. The fully charged, almost brand new batte

Bob: Yes, the small 7 amp-hour battery was probably a gel cell and may have just had too much internal resistance to run the Corsair. 90 amp-hours is more than enough. I think you could get by with m

Good idea to fuse both legs as standard practice. In a car, If the ground connection to the starter goes soft, 80 or more amps of current are going to try and go to ground thru your rig. Not good. PE
