1/2-Wave vertical is a good antenna, but difficult to support without interaction with a tower. Good luck. 73 Don N8DE For wpx contest I can only work the night shift. Am thinking of 80 meters but un

An 80M dipole at 125 ft is a spectacularly good antenna. I have two 80/40 fan dipoles at 110 ft at right angles. At that height, it will be a closer match to 75 ohms than 50 ohms. They play very well

The dipole should work well for TX. You might want to consider adding RX antennas to reduce the QRN. For wpx contest I can only work the night shift. Am thinking of 80 meters but undecided on an ante

Something to remember on MOV's: Every time they conduct, i.e. "eat a transient" they lose a little capacity. They are being chipped away at and eventually their capacity is reduced below sufficiency

MOVs "normally" fail shorted, but not always. As Patrick says, each hit uses some of the MOVs capacity and also lowers the voltage at which it conducts. That one hit may lower it a little or a lot. A
