I was evaluating the simplicity of the feed system for the 8-circle tx/rx array (4 active elements per steered direction) compared to the 9-circle array (9 active elements per steered direction) in t

Or, pare it back further to a standard four-square. If land is not a limiting factor, you can always do a pair of four-squares to enhance the signal incrementally in the four additional sub-direction

You might want to ask K9DX and K4JA about that. I used the K4JA 9-circle, and it did a darned good imitation of a 2-3 element yagi. Compared to a 4-square, it was night and day. 73, Pete N4ZR _______

Also see: http://www.n6rk.com/7_hex_array.pdf which has more gain than the 9-circle and a much simpler feed system (to get 6 directions) and a little more complexity to get 12 directions: http://www.

For contest applications, 2 or 4 dB are indeed, night and day. I perhaps should have mentioned that K4JA's 9-circle was on 80m, where the additional couple of dB meant a couple of layers of workable

An 8 compared to a 4 might not have a bunch more gain, but could have MUCH better F/B or F/R Beamwidth/directivity is going to be related to the physical extent, more than the number of elements. Wea
