Hi All Right now I have an 80 meter inverted 'V' up about 80 feet or so in a tree. It seems to work OK. The problem is, the way it is set up, the 2 ends of the antenna are only about 30 feet apart, k

Tom, You probably don't have a way to move the ends apart or you would have. No modeling here either but I bet the pattern is not great with the legs so close together. I have no clue what would happ

Since you have 80 feet of height to work with, I would string up a quarter wave vertical. You only need 70 feet for a quarter wave on 80. Then either use (4) elevated radials. You cant beat a vertica

I meant to say you can use either 2 or 4 radials if they are elevated. Bob K6UJ _______________________________________________ _______________________________________________ TowerTalk mailing list

Hi Tom - I would be afraid that with the ends that close together on 80 that, at least up near the feed point, it would start looking too much like an unterminated feedline, or at best be directional

Tom, I am not an antenna expert, but on 160M there seems to be quite a few guys using Inverted Ls. I will say that 80 ft is pretty low for any type of dipole on 80 meters (at least for a low angle of

I'll strongly agree with this. When I lived on a city lot in Chicago I had an 80M diipole at about 40 ft that I fed with parallel wire line. I used it on both 80 and 160M by tying both sides of the f

Tom, Setting it up as a half-wave inverted-L and feeding at the center should work well. I am very happy with mine. If you only plan to use it on 80/75M, you can feed it with coax, but be sure to dec

Tom: I'll provide a contrary opinion. If you can put up a delta loop, fed 1/4 wave down from the apex you might be surprised at how it might work, and you can avoid radials if they are not in the car

A delta loop is af fine antenna but you probably don't have room to lay out the base wire and it might be bidirectional, but have some gain. I'll stick with the end loaded vertical. Effecient. Balanc

Thanks for all the suggestions. Some really good food for thought. The tree is right on the edge of about a 400 foot hill that slopes off right from the base of the tree to all the good directions -

Alternatively, if you do not have space for radials, you can reduce your ground losses by elevating the center of current above ground. You can do this by building a double L antenna: http://www.yccc

Dick, Why not suspend two 80 meter quad elements between the two towers? You can add a relay on one loop( director) and switch in a pair of lines to equal a reflector. Two directions. I think that a
