Hi all, The ARRL 160 contest got me interested in 160. I would like to add loading coils and additional wire to my 80M dipole at my QTH in Maine to see how that might fly. (It would make it an 80/160
Larry, Horizontal antennas are not very effective on 160M because it's usually not practical to get them high enough to not be a cloud-warmer. I had an 160/80 dipole up about 120 ft between a couple

Jim, I suggested that but Larry sez he can't do that. For others, my 80m cage inverted vee (sans feedpoint choke) functions on 160m as a vertical w/ top-hat on 160m. The apex is at 70' AGL w/ about 8
Hi Bryan, Your concept is excellent, and a much more elegant version of what I did in Chicago. In essence, it's a Tee vertical. 73, Jim K9YC On Tue,12/16/2014 9:06 PM, Bryan Swadener via TowerTalk wr
If you have an 80M dipole, you can make it a nifty multiband antenna by making it a single wire feed "T" antenna (see attached dwg). Much info on Google, but attached is a suggestion from the Drake M

For 160-m. I agree with John's statement below, unless the vertical is real short and base loaded in which case I'd prefer a low Dipole or Inverted Vee on if there's no better option such as a top lo
This is the point exactly ... the radiation resistance of a "short" vertical (less than 50' or so on 160) combined with the relatively high losses in a base loading coil and less than optimum ground
Did you have a good radial or counterpoise system on it? That's needed to minimize loss in the soil near the base of the antenna. Salt water helps (a lot) in the far field, but the soil under the ant

I guess I should have defined what I consider a short vertical, something around 50' high and top loaded. If you had a support 50' high for your inverted V you could have used it for a vertical and t

Back in the late 60's or early 70's I bought some surplus radio stuff; a Gibson Girl with a balloon with sea water activated hydrogen generator to inflate it so you could put up an antenna when there
