Hello all,Somehow I have gotten the idea that one's lightning arrestors are best placed at the bottom of the tower. This seems logical to me. Then I came across another piece that said, no, arrestors

Yes, it can make a big difference. Lightning arresters are NOT just protecting you from a strike on your antenna. They also protect you from a strike on the power line or even just to the ground near

I like to install a Polyphaser at the base of the tower; takes care of grounding the shield at the base of the tower and adds some wiggle room for the polyphaser at the operating position entrance bu

I put Array Solutions Surge Arrestors AS-303U (formerly I.C.E. Protectors) at the Ground Window for Co-axial cables coming into the radio shack. The AS-303U are more than gas tube protectors. I also

The PRIMARY place for arresters is at the equipment you want to protect. Other places like at the base of the tower are only protecting the coax or maybe a remote switch. To protect the radios put th

Hi And grounding coaxials is good for other porpoise than protecting equipment, for example to reduce noise? Or doesn't help to reduce noise at the station? Thanks Jorge CX6VM/CW5W Enviado desde mi i

Grounding coax at the base of a tower would help to reduce the voltage difference between the shield and the tower. in the event of a nearby lightning strike or even electrical transients in the area

I agree with David, but I've not read all of the thread. You want the arrestor as close to the thing it's protecting as practical. The common point ground at the station entrance is the best compromi

One further thought: I would not place an additional arrestor at the base of the tower where it would likely see a much higher voltage than at the grounding plate (CPG) at the house entrance. 73 Roge

Part of the reason for the arrestor on the coax line is because the center conductor is going to have a voltage different from the shield. The tower and all of the lines coming down the tower share a
