Howdy -- Anyone have any tips or good instructions for installing PL-259s and / or Times Microwave coax connectors on LMR 400 DB - solid core, direct burial coax cable? Also, what to do with the icky
Pine-Sol cleaner. I used it when working with underground/overhead phone cable. Cut's right through icky-pic. If you have a Graybar Electric in your area they sell stuff for cleaning/removing icky-pi
You don't need to do anything to the goo that is sticking to the braid, if you are trying to solder to it. The braid solders great with the goo on it. Getting it off of your hands, and getting all th
Really ?!?!!! Do you think it is a good idea to tin the braid before I put a connector over / on it? == James - K8JHR == == _______________________________________________ ___________________________

Solder? Put on good old crimp connectors. They are sound, both mechanically and electrically. I prefer to use those with the solder center pin. Crimping tool is a little expensive if you are only goi
Hello James! I have soldered lots of PL259s on LMR400 direct bury coax using this method: http://www.k3lr.com/engineering/pl259/ Check it out. It should work well for you too. 73! Tim K3LR http://www
I've been a ham for 23 years, and never quite figured out connectors til reading through your page. Thanks so much, it's the best step by step I think I've ever seen on putting those things on. Dave,

Hi Rex! There is nothing "special" about the coax I use for this method! Regular ol' coax works great - soldering it on the back of the PL-259 as I show in the pictures. With this procedure there is
Tim shared this method a year or so ago. It is very easy and very reliable. I'll not go back to the through-the-hole method again. Just my opinion. Kenny, ab4gg --Original Message-- From: towertalk-b
