I would not do it for two reasons. 1. Modeling this antenna to avoid f/b problems on 40 is quite complex. 2. The boom is likely not up to the task of additional wind loading. I would add another boom

I grounded my reflector by putting the proper size stainless hose clamp around the middle and screwing the metal flag from the clamp to the boom. Works fine for me and gives more loading if you shunt

TT: On my Bencher tribander all the elements are insulated from the boom with PVC sleeves tightly held to the boom. Therefore, to short the parasitics to the boom I was not able to snake a hose clamp

The only thing I recall was that the balun that CC was using was rated pretty high. I don't recall much talk of replacing the stock unit and I own two of them. I would think that a good quality balun
