I recently installed an off-center-fed dipole, cut for 1/2 WL on 1.824 MHz (233 feet), using #12 Davis RF flexweave. I am feeding off center so that the feed point and transmission line will be in th

Bill: Before you start pulling your hair out and dismantling all the work on your antenna, answer this: Is there an AM broadcast station serving your area? The MFJ259's are notoriously finicky in the

Gene: Thanks for the response. There is a moderate-power station on 1430kHZ about 6 miles away, but it has never caused problems when I used the MFJ to adjust the 160 meter loading coil on my buttern

It's not your antenna wire. You don't have the right kind of balun(s). You have two requirements for the antenna, You have to match the antenna impedance and you have to take care of the feedline cur

You can configure a 4 to 1 current mode balun using two physically separated cores. There is an example in ARRL Antenna Handbook 20th edition page 26-24. Seems like you should be able to buy these al

That was my thought also Jerry. He has a grossly off center fed antenna. That means the common mode excitation of the feedline would be horrible. He'd have to use a coupling device with extermely hi

Mt question would be is the feedline acting like a transformer on 160 and not a transmission line? The second question is are you using some kind of lightening arrestor like a ICE arrestor in the lin

I want to think everyone who responded to my question about my failed attempt to construct an OCF dipole for 160 meters. I have learned a lot, as I usually do from this very helpful and knowledgeable
