If it doesn't open, get a bigger hammer. If it used pvc type glue to seal the parts there is almost no way to 'unglue' it. Probably simplest to saw the tube apart and then place fixed terminal and in

The reason they don't come apart is quite simple. The glue actually melts the pvc chemically and fuses the two parts together. I usually chip off the outside part (elbow or nipple) and then sand dow
