I was told the proper method is to raise the tower whatever distance is needed to expose the rotor. Then place a support (it was said a 2" pipe long enough to hold the inner tower section high enough

I have an HDX-589 (with the older Z-bracing) through the procedure would be the same with any similar tower. I didn't remove the antennas or the 20' mast. I have only tilted my tower over when I have

Before you have the mast pulled up as Steve recommends, put a couple of muffler clamps on the mast touching the top of the bearing to positively prevent it slipping down. I like to move them an inch

AND the time to change the clamp.... is before you install it all.... just moved tower 550 miles , and on the reinstall put xlc's clamp on ...the old clamp did twist a bit ... zoomable pixs bill /3 v

What Steve suggests is doubly true for Tri-ex towers like the LM-470 as even when they are cranked all the way down the two top section are never truly down on stops, they are by design still hanging
