My KT34a is acting up and I should probably replace it. My tower is only an MA40 and cannot handle much, plus I want something that is not too conspicuous. A 2 element Steppir may be good for me but
Gerry, I have a new, unassembled KT34 in its original (if somewhat ragged) carton. I also have all of the parts from M2 to make it just like the version they sell. I bought all that a while ago, the

The Navassa 5 really isn't that big. Probably has a smaller footprint that a KT34a. And with full size elements may perform at least as well if not better. Stay away from trap antennas whenever possi
If you want to see what the Navassa-5 looks like up "not that high" take a look at my QRZ page. Mine is installed at 51 feet, right next to the house. It also has the JK401 3 feet above it. However,

My 3-el straight Steppir (no trombones) has been trouble-free since neighbor K6XX put it on my 120 ft tower ten years ago. I've been VERY pleased with performance, and would make the same decision a
I attempted to rebuild a KT34 XA with the new kit supplied by M2. The kit was older, but new in the box. I never could get it to work or the SWR to be halfway reasonable. I sold it as parts/not work
If traps were as lossy and you think, why don't they just smoke and burn up when on RTTY at 1500 watts? Get your calculator out, and if they really are that lossy, would they would catch fire dissipa
I remember seeing a burnt TH7 trap on the wall of the P49V/P40YL shack with a note that said this is what happens when you run more than 500 watts on RTTY. Of course there may have been a salt buildu
I ran 1500 watts to a TH7 in southwest Washington for 15 years in RTTY contests. It finally blew up after 15 years. Most likely water or bugs in the 15 meter trap. Took it down and moved to Missouri

So how is it "acting up"? What symptoms does it have? It's a decent antenna so it might be worth repairing. Cheers,Steve K7LXCTOWER TECH _______________________________________________ ______

If you're considering a new antenna, I'd suggest the K4RIO (I think that's his call) Hex Beam. Almost negligible windload and works great. CheersSteve K7LXCTOWER TECH _______________________
Thanks Mike I am very footprint conscious in this location but I know it is a great antenna. The KT34a elements ahve a lot of space between them looking OK.. Maybe Navassa would not look worse 73 ger
