The copperweld in my antenna is 25 or 30 years old; stored inside for the middle 15 years. Don't remember whre I got it, so I have no idea of the original quality or copper thickness. Does the copper

Can't imagine any mechanism for this happening. There's copper wire that's been outside for centuries and still there. You'll get surface corrosion or oxidation, and then it sort of stabilizes. _____
