I've been working with a 5BTV antenna for about two weeks now. I've got good SWR readings on 10m, 15m and 80m. Higher but usable readings on 20m. However, I can't get anything under 2.0:1 on 40m. The

Try changing the length of your coax since you are close to a half wave on 40M. Also, its a good idea to use a choke on both the ant and shack ends of the coax so it does not try to act as part of th

You may need a lot more than 12 turns on that choke ( Ugly Balun ) . I tried 15 turns and I still got RF in the shack. I doubt that this is his problem. I went through hoops making my 6BTV work. Fina

That is a 6 BTV if it has 80 meters, right? I have a 6 BTV and I seem to recall that I had to adjust the length of aluminum tubiing above the 30 m trap. That meant cutting it. Before you do that, I s

No, it's a 5BTV (10-80). The 6BTV has 30m as well. I did get it at DX Engineering and have been working with them via email, no progress so far. Thought I give this list a try. I did look at the VFCC

Just a guess, but your 60 feet of coax is suspect here. Try adding 5 or 10 feet of coax and I bet your problems go away. Good Luck! __________________________ Michael Murphy - KD8OK kd8ok@yahoo.com _

--Original Message-- I use 5 2.4" diameter 31 mix cores with a half dozen turns through it as a choke on most all vertical antennas and find that it really kills the feedline interactions. Makes tuni

If you've got a good match at the antenna, changing coax length shouldn't make much difference other than longer will be a little lossier even on 40 therefore it might look a very little bit better.

I can certainly add 10 feet to the coax, but, as I should have mentioned up front, the SWR measurements were taken using an MFJ analyzer connected to the antenna with about 6 feet of coax. Kelley - W

I find that my MFJ analyzer is in complete agreement with using my radio and it's built in SWR meter. All of my antennas have random lengths of coax. I have never had to adjust coax lengths. However,

Won't tune on 40? High vswr on 20? I suspect a bad 20m trap. 10 and 15 are ok. 20 is wierd.. trap in backwards? Might be enough to keep 40m from tuning... and isn't the 80m tuning really a top loadin

As I said earlier, I struggled with this antenna myself. I only bought it for use on 80 meters. I also use the HyGain AV-640 which works on 40 through 6 meters. Fabulous antenna. Worked the world wit

The Hustler BTV series are great antennas. But unfortunately Hustler tunes them according to how a large majority of the amateur population (especially new hams) use them; that is to bang a pipe into
