I've never seen CAT5 or 6 that was anything but very *small* copper wires in twisted pairs (4 pair per cable). Aluminum would be a higher resistance per 1000' and I'd think the wires would need to be

Dik, I've installed miles of CAT5 and CAT6 cable in my 10 years as a network admin and have never seen aluminum CAT5e/6. Was this an office supply store variety with the molded connectors on each end

I use lots of CAT5 for control signals, etc and never solder. I either use screw terminals or RJ-45 connectors. Soldering is inconvenient. Rick N6RK _______________________________________________ __
